Primarily, these videos preach honesty. It is mentioned in almost all the video tutorials, and presented as a way of re-organising learning and realising holes in ones knowledge.
The process is to help students tailor themselves to the demands of the industry as problem solvers, able to analyse, evaluate and synthesize. Keeping with the theory that if you can communicate well with yourself, you can effectively communicate professionally.
My favourite part of the videos was when E. M. Forster was quoted:
"How do I know what I think until I see what I say."
You cannot truly process your own opinion or idea in your head. Only when they are physically presented can they be managed, evaluated and expanded.
Interestingly, some of the professors described the process as a negotiation of assessment and justification of academia. In this way, it is a technique that validates the artwork as a journey, not merely an aesthetic practice, but a thought driven process.
